1965 HEATHKIT GR-43A PORTABLE ALL-BAND RADIO. It is built like a tank; very solid and heavy.
Quite a bit of it was in languages other than english, and some of it seemed like people having a conversation? I know nothing about shortwave, so I really can't say if it was getting a lot of stations or not.
All of the switches and knobs work. The switch on the bottom left that operates the dial light is spring loaded and the dial only remains lit while it is held down. I assume that is the proper operation? Additionally, I noticed that the antenna has been soldered where the bottom two sections meet, so I think it has been repaired and effectively reduced by one section.
The antenna still extends to over 4', so it is by no means a small antenna. All I can say it that it is working as of now. If you are in NE Ohio, you are welcome to come to our antique mall and demo the item in person. From what I have learned, this Heathkit was basically a clone of a Zenith model. In fact, this radio was not offered for long because of threats of litigation by Zenith. According to a vintage radio website I found, the Heathkit is actually a better performing radio than the Zenith it was based on. I cannot confirm or deny that; I'll leave it up to the experts to decide!All items come from a non-smoking home. Please examine pictures carefully and ask me any questions you may have.
