Is a compact, high-performance, multi-band dipole variant designed for amateur radio enthusiasts who value portability, durability, and efficiency. While we love the simplicity of a resonant half-wave dipole, the Mini-Windom steps up for those needing multi-band capability, especially for low-power. Made in the USA by hams for hams.
An off-center fed dipole with an integrated 4:1 Ruthroff voltage balun at the apex for 200-ohm impedance matching. 10-foot RG58 coax with BNC connectors, placed between the balun and RF choke, enabling low-angle radiation for DX. Miniaturized, lightweight, and designed for 100 watts SSB or less, connected at the feed point with an SO239 connector. Three end-protector caps for connectors.
7.5" x 10" drawstring bag for easy storage. With materials sourced from U. Suppliers, this antenna is lightweight, rugged, and built to last. Unlike traditional off-center fed dipoles, the Mini-Windom uses a voltage balun and a radiating 10-foot feedline section, offering unique advantages for low-power DX.
Its compact size and rugged design make it a high-value alternative to more expensive, fragile antennas. Whether you're chasing DX or setting up a portable station, the Mini-Windom delivers. Covers 40 through 6 meters (tuner required). The 4:1 Ruthroff balun and radiating feedline section enhance low-angle radiation, ideal for long-distance contacts, especially to Europe, Central/South America, and nearby Asian stations. Perfect for field operations, stealth setups, or small base stations.
Easily fits in a backpack or glove box. Uses 18 AWG UL1007 elements, a Fair-Rite FT140-43 toroid for the balun, and an FT-140-43 toroid with 14-turn winding for the RF choke. Most internal tuners will suffice but a wide-range tuner may be needed for certain bands. Tested with a Yaesu FT-450D, LDG Z11 tuner, and 30 feet of RG-8X coax, the Mini-Windom achieves 1.1-1.5 SWR across 40-6 meters when strung 30-35 feet above ground. Screen captures of PSK reporter maps (included in photos) showcase its effectiveness for DX.
This antenna is labor-intensive to produce, so only limited quantities are available. Check out field operations and ham radio content on YouTube from creators like.
