Heavy Duty Version Rated at 2 KW ------ Our Heavy Duty models matching section is made with 300 ohm, stranded, copper-clad steel , ladder-line. Note : the ladder-line is very flexible and easy to route.
If you run an amplifier over 400 watts output then you probably will need this Heavy Duty model. Note: Our regular G5RV antennas use pure stranded copper for the 300 ohm matching section and are rated at 400 watts. This antenna is 102 feet long. It covers 80 through 6 meters including the WARC bands. Some say they can tune 160 meters using this antenna but we dont advertise it as covering that band. We build these antennas ourselves and take pride in our workmanship. We have built many, many of these antennas with no problems at all. The antenna wire is 14 gauge pure stranded copper that is quite flexible. The wire is double insulated and u. We have used this type of wire for many years and it holds up quite well. One of our antennas has been up over 20 years now and still no breaks in the insulation. Even though insulated wire is more expensive we use it because foliage will not detune the SWR on the insulated wire. The 300 Ohm matching section is 34 feet long, and uses to quality >stranded copper clad steel conductor window line> and is ultraviolet resistant. It will last for many, many, years. This matching section is very durable and also quite flexible. We use only silver plated PL-259 connectors. All connections are soldered and insulated with heat shrink for added strength.All connections are hermetically sealed to keep out the rain and snow. The antenna is very sturdy but lightweight and portable.
The antenna wire and 300 ohm matching section are black for stealth. You will need a decent tuner to tune all of the bands with this antenna.You will probably be able to tune some bands with your rigs internal tuner, but for best performance and to cover all bands a decent outboard tuner is necessary. It does not have to be a fancy or expensive tuner. Most tuners will tune this antenna up to 200 watts.
If you run higher power then you may need a more robust tuner. We have received great reports with this antenna.
A large percentage of hams are currently using this same antenna and are quite happy with its performance. It will work DX just as well as any other wire single wire antenna.
It also gets great reports from stateside contacts. I worked one the other night and he thought I was using a beam antenna. We talked for over an hour. The antenna can be hung in a tree, put in your attic, hung on your eaves or many other methods. It works just as well hung as an inverted vee as it does as a straight dipole. As with any antenna the higher you hang it, the better it will perform. The tuned feed line is 34 feet long and terminates in a PL-259 connector.From there you should run regular radio coax (52 Ohm) straight into your radio or tuner. The length of the coax is not critical. Many, many hams and short-wave listeners are currently using this antenna with great results. I believe you will be pleasantly surprised with this antennas performance. We construct all of our antennas right here in our own shop.
