ZS6BKW / G5RV Multi-band Antenna Rated at 2KW
This antenna is 90 ft. The 300 ohm matching section is 36 ft. It can be used on any band from 80 through 6 meters, including the W. Bands of 12, 17, and 30 meters. It will also work on 60 meters. This antenna is rated at 2KW of SSB or CW. The real beauty of this design is that an external antenna tuner is often not necessary to tune your radio on 40, 20, 17, 12, or 10 meters. Is low enough that in most cases the built in auto-tuner in your modern radio will tune the antenna.
On many frequencies the SWR is below 1.5 to 1 prior to tuning. NOTE: If you are using a tube type radio, your radio should also tune these bands without a tuner because tube type radios utilize a pi network style of tuning that works similar to an antenna tuner. The ZS6BKW is a computer optimized version of a G5RV antenna. When Louis Varney came up with the G5RV design computer modeling had not been invented.
Designers of the ZS6BKW used antenna modeling software to obtain the best antenna length combined with the best feedline length to create an antenna capable of tuning 5 bands with no external tuner. This is our version of the antenna designed by the computer antenna modeling software. We have done extensive testing on this antenna design and we must say that its performance is surprising. Our testing was done with the antenna in an inverted vee configuration.
The apex of the antenna was at only 14 ft. The ends were at 6 ft. We were using 50 ft.
Of RG8X coax running from the radio to the end of the antennas matching section. NOTE: If you need coax or connectors please let us know and we can supply them to you at a resonable cost. On every band we were able to make good solid contacts. On 40 meters we talked to a ham in. (distance of about 300 miles) for almost an hour.

All of our tests were conducted using SSB or CW at a power level of about 75 to 100 watts.Our ZS6BKW will also tune the other HF bands (80,60,30, and 15 meters), but an external tuner is needed to tune these bands. IMPORTANT NOTE Our tests were all performed using an Icom 746 Pro with a built in antenna tuner. We were able to tune our test antenna on most of 40,20,17,12, and 10 meters by using the Icom's built in antenna tuner.
On 80,60,30,15, and 6 meters, you will need an outboard antenna tuner to tune the antenna. We can state with certainty that this design outperformed our expectations. It is a very good antenna and it receives extremely well and transmits equally as well.
We were amazed at the performance of this antenna that was hung only 14 ft. No doubt, if this antenna is hung up higher it will perform even better. Also, the SWR should go even lower when you raise the antenna height. One real advantage of this design is that it is. Even though it is 11 ft.Shorter than the G5RV Classic it is still capable of putting out a strong signal on all bands of. If you don't have 102 ft. To install a G5RV Classic, then perhaps you have 91 ft. We build these antennas ourselves and take pride in our workmanship.
We have built many, many antennas over the years with no problems at all. The antenna wire is 14 gauge pure stranded copper that is quite flexible. The wire is double insulated and u. We have used this type of wire for many years and it holds up quite well. One of our antennas has been up over 20 years now and still no breaks in the insulation.Even though insulated wire is more expensive, we use it because foliage will not detune the SWR on the insulated wire. The 300 Ohm matching section is 36 feet long, and is made using premium grade ladder line. The ladder line utilizes copper-clad / stranded steel conductors.
It is both durable and very flexible for easy installation. It will last for many, many, years. We use only silver plated PL-259 connectors.
All connections are soldered and insulated with premium heat shrink for added strength. All connections are hermetically sealed to keep out the rain and snow. The antenna is very sturdy, but lightweight and portable. The antenna wire and 300 ohm matching section are black for stealth. We rate this antenna at 2000 watts while being used for SSB or CW.We also make a model rated at 500 watts. It is less expensive than this 2KW model and if you run under 500 watts of power it will perform equally as well as the 2 KW model. Both versions are extremely well built and will last many years.

It works just as well hung as an inverted vee as it does as a straight dipole. As with any antenna the higher you hang it, the better it will perform. The tuned feed line is 40 feet long and terminates in a PL-259 connector. From there you should run regular radio coax (50 Ohm) straight into your radio or tuner.
