The U-Bolts in the picture are not included. They are there to show you a very easy way to mount the antenna!
They are less than a dollar at any hardware store! PLEASE USE HIGH QUALITY LMR400 OR EQUIVALENT COAX WITH YOUR ANTENNA TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT!
AN ANTENNA IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE COAX THAT FEEDS IT. IT DOES MAKE A LARGE DIFFERENCE IN BOTH TX AND RX AT 2 METERS AND UP! TO DEPLOY This antenna is ground independent meaning your mast does not need to be connected to a ground as you can see how mine is mounted on my roof using a board and an old satellite dish mount.
If you use U-Bolts like I do then I reccomend making a few wraps of electrical tape around PVC where the bolt will be to provide a little cushion. There is a black line provided on the antenna as you can see in the pictures.Keep all mounts or bolts below this line to maintain optimal performance. Higher is always better but I routinely make contact with repeaters out to 60-70 miles and mine is only up 25 feet. Your mileage may vary depending on terrain and repeater. This diagram below will help you understand why a Slim-Jim has the apparent gain that it does. A Slim Jim antenna is basically similar to a J=pole design, but it exhibits a lower radiation angle in the range of 8-10 degrees on the horizon, compared to 1/2 wave J-pole which exhibits a 20-30 degree angle on the horizon.
